An Overview of Henan University of Economics and Law
HUEL, approved to establish in March 2010 by Ministry of Education, is the outcome of a merger between former Henan University of Finance and Economics (HUFE, founded in 1983) and Henan Administrative Institute of Politics and Law(founded in 1984). Located in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province, HUEL offers higher education programs in six disciplines -- economics, management science, law, literature, science and engineering, with an emphasis on the first three. In 1995, the university was approved by the government to recruit international students, and the first foreign student arrived at HUFE in the same year. HUEL has currently three campuses, covering an area of 133.3 hectares, equipped with well-established facilities and good teaching conditions.
The university, until recently, has an enrollment of over 30,000 students, totaling 8 disciplines and 55 sub-disciplines (including MBA) for master degree along with 63 undergraduate majors. It is complete in economic management specialties with distinctive advantages, characterizing 8 provincial-level key disciplines, i.e., Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management as well as 2 provincial-level key sub-disciplines. In 2008, the University was rated excellent in the National Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment presided over by the Ministry of Education. Also, HUFE was awarded the titles of Top 10 Favored Universities in Henan, Top 10 Influential Educational Brands in Henan and My Ideal Universities in Henan respectively in years of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
HUEL has all along attached great importance to fostering of versatile talents. Our undergraduates can opt for minors of their free will or conditionally transfer majors. Since 2010, HUEL’s four national-level programs (i.e. Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, International Economy and Trade) have started to recruit students from the first intake of high school graduates. HUEL also provides Experimental Classes preparing students for ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CGA (Certified General Accountants Association of Canada).
The university is well known for a number of academically accomplished scholars in finance, economics and law sectors, who hold high visibility and influence both at home and abroad. It boasts over 2000 full-time teachers, including a number of outstanding experts, professors, cross-century academic and technical forerunners, among whom two earned the title of the National Expert with Outstanding Contributions, one was selected for the nations’ Millions Talent Project .The university’s research outcomes are abundant with multiple provincial-level and State-level scientific projects well under way.
HUEL’s International Center for Cultural and Educational Exchange (Office of International Exchange and Cooperation) is a specialized department responsible for international cultural and educational exchange, which has already established good ties with universities and cultural institutions in Japan, Korea, America, Britain, France, Russia, Ireland, Australia, and other countries towards multi-level cooperation, students and cultural exchanges. It works with University College Cork and Carlo Polytechnic College towards a joint program directed at majors of business management, accounting, computer networks, computer software, and information management who successively go through vocational and undergraduate courses; Additionally, its undergraduate exchange programs cover the United States, Sweden, Brazil, Japan and other countries.
The university offers Chinese language and culture courses, and programs towards obtaining bachelor's and master's degrees. Since 1995, a total of about 900 students from nearly 20 different countries have studied here. The unviersity has all along put significant emphasis on foreign students, appointing experienced teachers on duty and providing good conditions for learning, students support and entertainment.
Campus Life
Dormitory status:the school offers single-bed and two-bed standard rooms (interior facilities include: bath room, broadband network, close-circuit cable TV and bed). The fee is 120 Yuan per day and two-bed room 60 Yuan per day for each person. International students can also choose to live outside the campus and foreign affairs office will assist you to find appropriate accommodation. The rent will be 600 to 1200 Yuan per month for an apartment with one or two bedrooms.
Sports facilities:it has two 400-m tracks (one with plastic topping ), 2 artificial-turf soccer fields, 23 basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts, 2 tennis courts, a training gym, 8 indoor training rooms, a swimming pool, a rink, 4 table-tennis rooms, 6 gymnastics rooms. These sports facilities meet the demand of physical education, group activities and specialized sports. International students can participate in teams of basketball, football, volleyball etc.
Medical service: teachers and students are entitled to reliable medical check and health care from university hospital.
Library: With an architectural area of 11,672 square meters, it holds 2.7 million books, 1,500 Chinese journals, 60000 compact editions of Chinese periodicals, 52 international journals, and 4,000 consolidated journals, 1 million volumes of ancient literatures, 354,700 e-books, and 19 network-enabled databases. With economic books amounting to 60 percents, it highlights financial and economical characteristics, and formed a special collection system with the economic volumes as the main feature.
Computer equipment: The University has a modernized data processing center, audiovisual classrooms, and over 100 multimedia classrooms with 1000 computers for the use of students.
Entertainment and social life: International students have opportunities to visit in groups some historical places and gain, from multiple perspectives, personal understanding of Chinese culture and customs. In addition, they can join many student organizations, such as: Nova poetry society, Xiang Yun Photography Club, Calligraphy Association, and Tourist Association etc.
Family:If your family come with you, International Affairs Office will help you find suitable accommodation. The rent will be 600 to 1200 Yuan per month for an apartment with one to three bedrooms. Annual living expenses per capita are approximately 10,000 Yuan. You can choose from many kindergartens around and on the campus, it costs 700 - 1000 Yuan per month for each little one.
Chinese Language and Cultural courses
Students can learn Chinese language at multiple-level programs ranging from elementary to senior level. Meanwhile, they will have access to pre-test courses for HSK examination.

How to apply
1. Contact HUEL’s International Center for Cultural and Educational Exchange (Office of International Exchange and Cooperation) for Application Form. The form can be photocopied.
2 Students for language learning should mail the application form to the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation in two months before admission. Undergraduate and Postgraduate students shall mail the whole set of documents (listed bellow) to the HUEL’s International Center for Cultural and Educational Exchange (Office of International Exchange and Cooperation).

For undergraduate students studying for a bachelor degree:
1. HUEL’s application form for ordinary undergraduate students
2. Copies of passport and visa page, high-school graduate certificate and transcript.
3. A copy of HSK certificate (for literature bachelor 3rd class or above, for others 6th class or above)
4. Result of the math test given by the HUEL (provide after the test, exempt for literature students)
For postgraduate students studying for a master degree:
1. HUEL’s application form for postgraduate student
2. Copies of passport and visa page, bachelor degree certificate and transcript
3. Two reference letters
4. HSK 6th class certificate
3 Admitted applicants will receive Visa Application for Foreign Students in China and Letter of Admission from the HUEL.
4 Admitted applicants shall apply for visa with the Chinese Embassy in your country. Rember to bring with you “the Visa Application for Foreign Students in China JW2020” and the “Letter of Admission”.
5. Registration: for long-term language students (schooling length over half a year) course usually started on March 10th and Sep.10th. For short-term language students courses started on July 1st and August 1st. Degree course started on Sep 1st each year.
6 Register at HUEL’s International Center for Cultural and Educational Exchange on the designated date. If applicants be unable to register on the required date due to special reasons, they may get delayed admission by contacting us in advance.
